Countering a recent research by independent consulting firm CounterPoint Research, Samsung’s president and chief executive for South-West Asia, BD Park has told The Economic Times that the company still dominates the Indian market with a market share of nearly 50%. He also said that the company has double the market share in the smartphone category from its next competitor Micromax. CounterPoint Research recently claimed that India-based smartphone manufacturer Micromax has become the largest mobile phone supplier in India in the second quarter of 2014. Micromax has overtaken Samsung for the first time in the mobile race. The report also revealed that the handset shipments share of Micromax stood at 16.6% in the quarter, compared with the Samsung’s share of 14.4%.
