What to Expect from the Newly Launched Reliance JioBook?

Reliance Jio expanded to the laptop market recently after it launched mobile phones. The laptop is named Reliance JioBook and is available for less than Rs. 20000. This product is not a regular Windows laptop or something like Chromebook.

JioBook runs on the custom Android version known as JioOS. This version is meant for laptops specifically. It can access all apps in the Microsoft suite and comes bundled with Microsoft 365 services as Jio partnered with Microsoft for this.

Specifications and features

It has a compact body with an 11.6-inch display with 1366×768 pixels HD resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. There is no information on the screen brightness levels though.

There is a 2MP webcam to facilitate video calling and the audio is maintained by the dual 1.0W speakers. The best part is that it has a SIM card slot and the peripherals include a 3.5mm headphone jack and two USB ports.

Connections could be made using HDMI mini, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi. The laptop is powered by a mid-range ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC and Adreno 610 GPU. The chip was launched in 2019 and is based on an 11nm process. It scores 170000+ on AnTuTu.

However, only 2GB RAM is provided with the product which could be a reason for slow performance if there are too many apps installed. The internal storage space is 32 GB and can be expanded up to 128 GB. It comes with a 5000 mAh battery and as per Jio’s claim, it can last up to eight hours on a single charge. The heat is managed by passive cooling. The JioBook supports various local languages.

When it was introduced on a government marketplace online a few weeks back, it was priced at Rs.19500. But surprisingly the retail version costs just Rs.15,799. For now, there is only one variant available for this product. Hopefully, Jio will come up with more variants shortly.
