1. Initiate safe mode in Windows 11 by using Start Menu
You can start safe mode in Windows 11 by accessing the Recovery Mode first. Hence, the steps will include going through Recovery Mode as well.
The steps are mentioned below:
- Go to the Start menu.
- Press the Power button. After that, long press the Shift key.
- Click on Restart without leaving the Shift key.
- Here, the reboot process will start. Select Troubleshoot from the options available.

- Now, tap on Advanced Options and go to Startup Settings.

- Press Restart.

- A menu with different Safe Modes will appear. Select the wanted Safe Mode.

You will be able to work with the selected mode after the PC is restarted.
2. Start safe mode in Windows 11 by using Advanced Startup
Advanced Startup fixes errors and modifies settings that cannot be executed when the OS is running. This function also lets you start safe mode in Windows 11.
- Press Windows and I together. Or, go to the settings through the Start menu.

- On the left pane, select System.
- Look for the Recovery option in the right pane and open it.
- Now, click on Advanced Startup.
- A warning will appear. Press Restart Now.
- Once the PC is rebooted, click on Troubleshoot. After this, consecutively go to Advanced Options and Startup Settings.
- Press Restart. Wait until the process is done.
- Choose the Safe Mode from the list.
3. How to start Windows 11 in safe mode using Command Prompt
If the above-mentioned options do not work for you, the Command Prompt is a reliable option.
The following are the steps:
- Head to the search bar and type cmd. The Command Prompt will open.
- Type the shutdown.exe /r /o command and tap on Enter.
- A pop-up message ‘You’re about to be signed out’ will appear. Simply close the pop-up and allow the Windows to reboot.
- The same screen with Safe mode options will appear. Select the Safe mode of your wish and proceed according to the steps mentioned in the previous method.
Exit Safe mode on Windows 11
To exit Safe mode on Windows 11, all you need to do is to restart your PC. After this, the system will operate like before. To restart, press the power button and select restart.
