Via System Preferences
- Download and install the browser you want to use on your MacBook
- Launch System Preferences from the Apple menu bar or the Applications folder of Mac’s Dock
- Click on General
- Click to expand the dropdown menu next to the Default web browser option
- Select the browser you want to set as the default one
Via the browser’s settings
To make Google Chrome the default browser
- Open Google Chrome on your device
- Click on Chrome and go to Preferences
- On the Settings page, select the Default browser option
- Hit the Make Default button
- Select Chrome as the default browser
- Confirm the Use Chrome option when the option appears on a popup menu
To make Firefox the default browser
- Launch the Firebox browser
- Choose Firefox
- Go to Preferences from the menu bar of the app
- Choose the General tab on the Settings page
- Select the Make Default under the Startup tab
- Select Use Firefox when asked
