Apple started manufacturing iPhone 14s in India since it moved some production from China against the backdrop of Covid-19 lockdowns and geopolitical tensions between the USA and China. The relationship between the two countries has become strained causing grave difficulties for Apple.

Manufacturing unit

A production line began its operation in Chennai to assemble iPhone 14 for sale in the Indian market. This is the first time that assembling is happening outside of China in the same year as the release of the product. This step is taken to disentangle Apple iPhone’s manufacturing operations from China.

Largest smartphone market

India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world after China. Apple has been assembling its devices since 2017 in China. However, now, manufacturing units are being set up in Brazil as well along with India to assemble older models.
