A technology that is extremely effective against air pollutants and Covid-19 has been developed by IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay. Both of these institutions have jointly worked on this technology to make it a big success. As per the testing done at CSIR-IMTECH, the technology can deactivate COVID-19 with 99.9% efficiency within a minute. As the technology is used to purify the air and destroy germs, it has been named ‘Anti-Microbial Air Purification Technology.’
The technology is developed by AiRTH, which is a startup incubated at the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur.
Here’s how AiRTH Startup was developed
According to IIT Kanpur, CEO and Founder of AiRTH Ravi Kaushik during his master’s in Environmental Engineering at IIT Bombay recognized the limitations in the current purification technologies. He then planned to modify it with the support and guidance of Professor Amitabh Bandopadhyay who is a professor-in-charge of the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre at IIT Kanpur.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has played a key role in testing the prototypes and getting them validated by trusted laboratories of India such as CSIR-CDRI, CSIR-NPL, and many more.
How the AiRTH technology is being used in various sectors?
These AiRTH Anti-Microbial Air Purifiers are already been used in hospitals for protecting cancer patients who are immuno-compromised and are at fatal risk from the common cold as well. Not only this, but the AiRTH has helped both private and government corporates in ensuring that their employees work in clean and safe offices.
As the technology has got CSIR-IMTECH validation, it can clearly be termed pioneering in its efforts to fight against COVID-19. Also, the development of this technology demonstrates the ‘Made in India’ initiative and vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
