Using Adobe Acrobat Pro– This method is applicable if you have a subscription to Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or a copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro. Here is how it is done:

  • Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat and enter the password as prompted
  • Click on File in the menu bar
  • Select Properties
  • Hit the Security tab in the Document Properties window
  • Choose Security Method from the drop-down options in the Document Security section
  • Select No Security
  • Hit OK to confirm the choice
  • Click on OK again to close the Document Properties window
  • Click on File and then Save

Using free programs– If you do not have an Adobe Acrobat Pro subscription, you can still be able to remove the password from a PDF file. However, you would not be able to use certain features of the PDF like editing the document. The PDF would be available as a photocopy. Here is how it is done:

  • Open the PDF file in a program that could open PDFs like any preview app, web browser, Microsoft word, etc.
  • Click on the Print option or icon
  • Choose the printer in the Print settings or Print Preview window
  • Select the option that says Microsoft Print to PDF or Save as PDF
  • If you chose the Save as PDF option, click on Save to save it on your device
  • If you chose the Microsoft Print to PDF option then click on Print
  • Give a name to the file and save it on your device
  • The PDF would be saved without the password protection
