Where are Jio 5G services made available?

Jio 5G is available for users in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, and Varanasi as of now. If you have a 5G smartphone and live in any of these cities, you need to be enrolled in the invite-only trial program to use 5G services. The program is known as ‘Jio Welcome Offer’.

About the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’

The offer will be given to people with 5G network-compatible devices and stay in good Jio 5G-network coverage areas mostly. Prepaid users should have an active plan of Rs. 239 or higher while the offer is available to all postpaid users.

The invite or the offer for chosen users would be visible on their My Jio app when they open the same. They will be upgraded to the Jio True 5G service without the need to change their SIM card or handset. They would be able to enjoy 5G data at up to 1Gbps speed.

How to check if your device is 5G compatible?

Check the packaging or the box in which the device came in for any information about 5G compatibility. If you have purchased the smartphone online, check the product description on the seller’s website. You can also Google or check the brand’s official website feeding the model’s name to be doubly sure whether or not the device is compatible.

How to activate Jio 5G?

If all the other criteria are met, here is the step-by-step guide to activating Jio 5G on your device:

For Android

  • Go to the Settings app
  • Choose the Mobile Network or a similar option
  • Select the Jio SIM to activate 5G
  • Hit the Preferred network type option
  • A list of networks will show up on your screen
  • Choose the 5G network type from the list
  • Since you are already certain that the 5G facility has started in your locality, the 5G sign will appear within the next few minutes on the status bar

For iOS

  • Open the Settings app
  • Go to the Cellular menu
  • Choose Cellular Data Options
  • Hit the Voice and Data option and either choose 5G On or 5G Auto option
  • The device will connect to a 5G network as and when available and a 5G symbol will appear on the status bar indicating enabling of 5G services
