Twitter India has landed itself in deep waters again! Twitter India map shows Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh as a separate country. This has created an uproar as Bulandshahr police has booked the Managing Director of Twitter India under Section 505 (2) of IPC and Section 74 of the IT (Amendment) Act 2008 for showing a wrong map of India on its website. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of a local lawyer, Bulandshahr SP Santosh Kumar Singh.
The wrong Twitter India map triggered a heavy backlash with #TwitterBan trending with almost 17,000 tweets. The worst part, this is not the first time that Twitter has misrepresented India’s map. Earlier, it had shown Leh as part of China. India had then issued a stern warning to Twitter making it clear that any disrespect of the country’s sovereignty and integrity will not be accepted.
Bad stars for Twitter India
After the grave mistake, Twitter quietly removed the map. The error was first noted in the career section of Twitter’s website under the header ‘Tweep Life’. It now seems that the IT ministry may issue a show-cause notice to the company for the fresh transgression, and may even take a step further and recommend suitable action against the American microblogging giant.

This has made the microblogging platform lose its legal shield as an intermediary in India, and is now liable for users posting any unlawful content.
