How to Activate Your eSIM on iPhone: An Easy Guide

As soon as you buy a new device whether Android or iOS, you have the option to activate the eSIM. It is an extremely simple process. Either you can do it right away as per the instructions on your phone’s screen or by calling the carrier if you plan to activate it later. How to activate eSIM on iPhone?

eSIM carrier activation

This is meant for iPhones that come with a cellular plan. The eSIM gets activated the moment the device is turned on.

  • Follow the instructions on the screen during the setup process
  • Select the WiFi option you have access to for connecting your phone
  • The setup process may take some time, so you need to be patient
  • To know whether or not the cellular service is activated on the device, check for the signal strength that should appear in the upper right corner
  • Hit the Continue option when prompted

Quick transfer

This process aids in transferring SIM from one device to another. You can transfer more than one SIM as well with this process to the iPhone. There are two ways of doing this. Firstly, you can transfer a physical SIM or eSIM of your existing device into the new one. Secondly, you can convert the physical SIM to eSIM on the same iPhone.

Steps to transfer physical SIM and eSIM

  • Go to the Settings app of your iPhone
  • Click on Cellular
  • Choose the Add Cellular Plan option
  • Select the appropriate cellular plan from the list presented
  • Hit Transfer from the other phone if using iPhone
  • Follow the instructions displayed on the other device
  • Click on Transfer for confirmation
  • You can also ask for a code to be sent to your existing phone
  • The SIM on the old device gets deactivated and gets activated on the new iPhone instantly
  • Click on Finish Setting Up Your Carrier’s Cellular Plan
  • You would be transferred to the carrier’s webpage
  • Once the process is finished, the eSIM gets installed successfully

Activate eSIM from physical SIM on the same device

  • Go to the Settings app of your iPhone
  • Click on Cellular
  • Choose the Convert to eSIM option- This choice is available if your mobile plan supports eSIM
  • Tap Convert Cellular Plan
  • Select Convert to eSIM
  • The SIM card gets activated as soon as the eSIM is activated
  • Remove the physical SIM afterward and restart the device
  • Set up the new iPhone
  • During the setup process, go to Settings
  • Choose Cellular
  • Select Set Up Cellular
  • Tap on Scan OQ Code and follow the instructions
  • Once the setup finishes, the eSIM shall be ready for use

Through the cellular carrier

  • Once the iPhone is set up, call the carrier and ask for the QR code
  • Open the Camera app to scan the code
  • You would get a popup saying Cellular Plan Detected
  • Press Continue
  • Choose the Add Cellular Plan option
  • Enter the confirmation code sent by the carrier to continue with the final setup
