Steve Jobs Desired to Launch First iPhone Without SIM Card Slot

Former iPod VP Tony Fadell, who is popularly known as “father of the iPod”, in a recent interview revealed that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs wanted the first iPhone to be without a SIM card slot. Jobs wanted to make it a seamless device that could only be compatible with eSIM.

Interestingly, he thought of trying this eSIM technology even before it came into existence. As per Fadell, Jobs instructed the designers and engineers that he doesn’t want another hole in iPhone. Also, Jobs wanted the iPhone to have a CDMA network rather than GSM. Devices which support CDMA are directly connected to the service provider’s network and do not need a SIM card to work.

However, Fadell himself revealed that he had to convince Jobs for not using CDMA over GSM, as the technology had small adaption. He successfully put his point by using market data.
