The PS4 Communities feature was launched in 2015. Since then, there are thousands of communities in the PS4 network, which includes a mix of official communities and fan-created groups. In 2020, Sony removed the Communities app from iOS and Android stores owing to the lack of regular active users. The company further took a step and completely removed the communities feature in PS5. Instead of building communities, Sony has shifted its focus towards social efforts with alterations in the way the party chats work. It has also decided to group friends and chats together in Game Base on the PS5 system software.
