Important things to know
You would continue to enjoy Netflix until the last date of the current billing cycle. If you decide to restart the subscription, you can do so within the next 10 months without losing your watch list, viewing history, and other account details. In other words, you can pick up where you left off.
If 10 months have passed and you still did not reactivate your account, Netflix will automatically delete all your information. You need to create a new account if you choose to take the subscription again.
If you want the account to be deleted immediately, then you need to send an email with the request to privacy@netflix.com, from the registered email account with Netflix. They would not delete the account until the end of the present billing cycle unless you insist on immediate deletion.
It is to be noted that Netflix would not refund any money as they do not give refunds on prorate basis.
It is advisable to consult with other account users if any before you decide to cancel the subscription. Change the password before or after canceling the account and do not share the same especially if it is your account details registered for payment and billing. As they might restart the subscription.
You may also choose to downgrade to a cheaper plan if the subscription amount is a concern. This is possible if you are already not using the cheapest option. You can do so by visiting the Change Streaming Plan page.
