What is Google Chrome Helper Renderer and How to Disable It?

What is Google Chrome Helper Renderer?

Chrome users run into browser speed issues sometimes if there is a problem between the built-in Google Chrome Helper and a plug-in. The Google Chrome Helper is an interface between the embedded code in the browser and the remote servers required for plug-ins to function. It is set to automatically run along with the default settings of Chrome.

You may not be able to see the Helper but the tool is using a portion of the computer’s processing power and memory. If your Chrome browser is still running slow despite trying many troubleshooting methods, then you may disable the Google Chrome Helper.

How to Disable Google Chrome Helper?

  • Open Google Chrome on Your PC or Mac
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner
  • Select Settings
  • Click on Advanced in the left-hand menu bar
  • Choose Privacy and security from the dropdown menu
  • Scroll down and select Site Settings

  • Click on Unsandboxed plugin access
  • Click on the blue slider next to “Ask when a site wants to use a plugin to access your computer (recommended)”
  • It will turn gray and the text will change to “Do not allow any site to use a plugin to access your computer.”

Once you have disabled the Google Chrome Helper, you can prevent Flash ads from loading. Here is how:

  • Open Google Chrome on Your PC or Mac
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner
  • Select Settings
  • Click on Privacy and Security
  • Select Site Settings
  • Scroll down to select Pop-ups and redirects
  • Turn off the toggle button
  • Go back and choose Ads and ensure that the toggle button is off

Stop Several Chrome Processes Via the Task Manager

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner

  • Choose More Tools followed by Task Manager
  • Identify the processes with excess CPU usage, right-click on each of them, and choose End Process

Delete Suspicious Extensions from Google Chrome

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner
  • Choose More Tools followed by Extensions
  • Delete unreliable extensions by clicking on the Remove button

Reset the Browser Settings to Default

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner
  • Select Settings followed by Advanced
  • Click on the Reset button
