VI has started expanding its Vi-Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Calling service to Apple iPhones, and other compatible devices.  To make calling easier in bad cellular reception area, Vodafone Idea was already offering the Vi Wi-Fi calling for select Android smartphones.

The telecom company has now decided to roll out this helpful feature and other devices running on running iOS 14.5. This service will enable users to make and receive voice calls on a Wi-Fi network instead of cellular network. 

Vi Wi-Fi Calling is currently rolled out only in a select few states. As mentioned on the Vi website, the Wi-Fi service can currently be enjoyed in Maharashtra, Delhi, Goa, Kolkata, and Gujarat. Vi is presently offering Wi-Fi calling facility on smartphones from OnePlus, Samsung Oppo, Realme, and Xiaomi.

Along with Wi-Fi calling, VI has also rolled out couple of new of privacy features as well as support for Face Unlock while wearing a mask (if you have an Apple Watch). It is also offering App Tracking Transparency to enable users to decide which apps can actually track their activity across other apps and websites for offering personalised ads. This feature will also help users keep a tab on their data being shared with third party aps to control spamming and unnecessary notifications.

Wi- Fi Calling service allows customers to experience HD quality voice calls along with faster call setup time. It allows the customers make voice calls in areas with low or no network coverage or poor mobile signal.

To begin with, it is important to ensure that you have a reliable Wi-Fi, supported handset. You will also need an active 4G SIM card. Now, follow these simple steps to use Vi Wi-Fi calling on your smartphone.

  • First step is to upgrade your iPhone OS to the latest version
  • Now, go to Settings > Phone > and enable Wi-Ficalling
