Aadhaar card holders would now be able to update their documents online on the myAadhaar portal to revalidate their demographic details. This is greatly beneficial for those who never updated their details since they received the card as long as ten years back. This service is available for free until 14th June 2023 whereas physical Aadhaar centers charge Rs. 50 for updating any details.

About

The Aadhaar card has become a vital piece of document for identification since its launch in 2009. This is especially because almost 1200 schemes and programs run by the Government of India deliver their services based on Aadhaar-based identification.

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) which administers Aadhaar-related matters is encouraging Aadhaar card holders to update their Proof of Address and Proof of Identity. This is simply because it would encourage better service delivery, ensure ease of living, and enhance the success rate of authentication.

It is pretty easy to use the myAadhaar portal. The only thing to ensure is that the phone number of the user is linked with the Aadhaar card. Users need to log in with their Aadhaar card number and an OTP would be sent to their mobile number as an SMS.

They need to click on the ‘Document Update’ option and the existing details shall be displayed. The users need to verify their details and click on the hyperlink provided next. On the next screen, the Aadhaar cardholders need to click on the drop-down menu to choose the PoA and PoI options and upload their documents. The list of acceptable PoI and PoA is available on their official website.

If any demographic details need to be changed like name, date of birth, etc. then the users can do so using the regular online update service. They can also visit their nearest Aadhaar center which would attract charges as already mentioned before.

It is also been reported that the Government of India is working on a framework that would allow people to update other important documents through Aadhaar. Any changes made in the Aadhaar document would reflect on linked documents automatically stored on DigiLocker.

DigiLocker is the digital vault of the government for storing documents. Once the framework is ready, people would get the option to either use or not use the service. This service would take some time to come into action.
