Mulally worked in Ford as president and CEO for eight years and left the company in June 2014. Before his stint in Ford, he was the CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and executive vice president of the Boeing Company for more than five years.

Google is of a firm belief that Mulally will further help the company in extending its reach in the auto industry and beyond.

Google CEO Larry Page has been quoted saying in the press release that “Alan brings a wealth of proven business and technology leadership experience. I am so pleased that Alan is now joining Google’s board!”

Meanwhile, Mulally added that “he is honored to serve on the board of a global iconic company that is dedicated to enhancing our lives.”

It was just a few months back that Google showed its commitment to the auto industry and its Open Automotive Alliance, which in January included just Audi, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai and chip maker Nvidia.
