On Tuesday, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. unveiled Tongyi Qianwen. It is an AI large language model like ChatGPT. The company plans to integrate Tongyi Qianwen into all its business applications going forward.

DingTalk, which is the workplace messaging app of Alibaba would be the first one to get the AI chatbot. It would be used to write emails, summarize notes of the meetings, draft business proposals, etc. It would also be integrated with Alibaba’s voice assistant, Tmall Genie, later.

Daniel Zhang, the CEO of Alibaba, stated, “We are at a technological watershed moment driven by generative AI and cloud computing, and businesses across all sectors have started to embrace intelligence transformation to stay ahead of the game.”
Good news
As soon as the chatbot is announced, the share price of Alibaba increased by 3%. The company plans to make Tongyi Qianwen available to its clients to empower them to create their own personalized large language models.

Tongyi Qianwen is based on Tongyi, which is the proprietary pre-trained model framework by Alibaba that unifies numerous AI models. Generative AI gained much popularity and garnered huge interest after the release of ChatGPT last year by OpenAi backed by Microsoft. Baidu and Alphabet Inc’s Google also endorsed their AI models and introduced similar chatbots.
