The Tech Czar recently launched something called Google’s dLight gift for employees. But before you get dLight-ed (I had to go for the pun!) about it, here is something you should know. It is as exclusive as it can get (for now at least).
What is Google dLight?
Foraying into yet another dimension of technology, Google launched dLight recently, which is a smart lamp. A lamp by Google sounds exciting, isn’t it? But, here is the catch. It is only for its employees.
The lamp, honestly, does not look extraordinary. It has a round base and a long narrow stem. The hard of the lamp can be moved in any direction. The brightness levels of the lamp can be adjusted. And of course, it can be connected to the Google Home app. So its functions can be controlled via voice commands.

Clearly, Google’s dLight gift for employees is one intelligent lamp. It has a USB-C port and can be updated for future feature additions.
Quite a smart thing for being just a lamp, isn’t it?
Google has launched this product to enhance the work from home productivity of its employees. The company feels it will improve the quality of the video conference calls.
As mentioned earlier, this Google’s dLight-ful gift is exclusively for Google employees.
So, what can you use instead?
We have compiled a list of smart lamps that you can use instead of Google dLight.
- Syska TL-1007-I 7W smart table lamp: This lamp is compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa. It gives uniform light output and has a LED light. The wattage of this lamp is 7 watts.
- Phillips Sky touch-controlled table lamp: This lamp looks somewhat similar to the elite Google dLight. Its direction is adjustable. The finish is matt. It is operated with touch control. It has to be recharged with a USB cable.
- Mi Smart Bedside Lamp: This is one of our favorites. It is controlled via a mobile app. But it also has touch controls. It can also be operated by Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. It comes with multiple mood settings.
- Wipro Garnet LED table lamp: This lamp provides 3 touch dimming controls. The color can be changed in three grades. Its finish is polished. It is not rechargeable and has to be plugged in for power. The wattage of this lamp is 6 watts.
If you don’t work for Google, you may not be lucky enough to use the Google dLight. Yes, the exclusivity is alluring. But hey, do not lose heart. There are plenty of these smart lamps available in the market you can consider buying. And if not, maybe consider applying for a job at Google? Just Kidding!
