People can now book their Uber rides via WhatsApp’s chatbot known as the WhatsApp to ride or WA2R. This chatbot is powered by a global firm known as Infobip. Back in 2021, the feature’s pilot was tested successfully in Lucknow.

As per the Lucknow pilot, the WA2R audience is much younger than the average Uber app user. And almost 50% of users are less than the age of 25.

Senior Director Mobility & Platforms Uber, Manikandan Thangarathnam says that their team of engineers at the Bangalore Tech Centre is behind the building of this product and the integration. The team took less than three months to complete the development process for the feature. Whereas Ravi Garg, director, of WhatsApp Partnerships, India says that the new way of booking uber rides within the WhatsApp interface has helped the company acquire new riders.
