Meta has announced the SeamlessM4T, which is an all-in-one multimodal and multilingual translation model that works on artificial intelligence. In a blog post, the company announced that the Meta multilingual translation model will enable people to communicate through speech and text across nearly 100 languages.

SeamlessM4T will offer speech-to-text translation for input and output of 100 languages. Additionally, it will offer speech-to-speech translation for nearly 100 input languages and 36 output languages. There will be text-to-text translation for about 100 languages as well.
Meta has said that they have launched SeamlessM4T under an open science policy. Thus, this Meta multilingual translation model will be available under a research license so researchers and developers can further work on this. Alongside, the company said it has released the metadata of SeamlessAlign. This is supposedly the biggest open multimodal translation dataset to date as it claims 270,000 hours of mined speech and text alignments as per the Meta blog post.
Meta Launches Web Version of Threads
In a separate development, Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg also said that they are launching the web version of their newest social media network Threads. This is a significant development because Threads is considered the answer to Elon Musk’s newly-acquired X (formerly Twitter). With this development, users can log into Threads on the website. Thus, they will be able to access the text-first social media platform from their laptops.
Announcing this on Threads, Zuckerberg said the web version would be available to users in the next few days. While additional features will be added to the web version later, some Threads mobile app features will not be available immediately. For example, users won’t be able to edit their profiles on the web version. The feature of sending a thread to Instagram DM will not be available either.
