Viral Gemini Nano Banana Saree Trend Raises Privacy Concerns with AI

After Ghibli art took over social media by a storm, Google Gemini’s Nano Banana AI Saree trend is going viral on Instagram. Users are turning simple selfies into retro-style saree portraits with the Gemini AI image generator tool.

Inspired by the Bollywood of the ’90s, the edits featuring girls wearing chiffon sarees have captivated the social media. But the trend isn’t all glamour. Some users have noticed unexpected details in the AI generated pictures and raised  privacy concerns about AI tools.

What’s Going Wrong?

An Instagram user, who goes by the name Jhalakbhawani, created a saree edit using Nano Banana and noticed an unexpected detail—a mole on her left arm.

The creepy part was that she actually has a mole, but it wasn’t visible in the original photo that she uploaded as she was wearing a full sleeve suit. The appearance of this detail alarmed her.

Several users have also reported “creepy” visual inaccuracies in edits, such as odd artifacts and  distortion of phtsical features that seem too personal to be random.

All these incidents have sparked a debate on how images are stored, whether data might be used to train AI models without consent, and how third parties could misuse edited or original photos.

What Can Users Can Do to Stay Safe?

We know you don’t want to miss the bandwagon but your safety is paramount. A few simple precautions can go a long way in protecting your privacy while you enjoy the viral AI edits.

Stick to official apps

You should stick to official apps and trusted sources like ChatGPT, Google Gemini app or Gemini AI Studio. Even if it is taking a little time, don’t let look-alike tools or third-party websites entice you, they are more likely to be a spam.

Post wisely

While using AI tools or online photo editors, never upload images or parts of photos you wouldn’t want to share publicly. You should be especially cautious with sensitive content.

Besides, you should always check the edited photo carefully, before you share it online. If it has unexpected details like moles, scars or other identifiers that weren’t in your original, that’s a red flag.

Review privacy & terms of service

We understand it feels time-consuming and boring, but you should always read the terms of service carefully, instead of blindly checking the boxes. Understand how your images will be stored, whether they can be used to train AI models and what rights you’re giving up by uploading your images.

Why This Matters?

Google Gemini’s Nano Banana AI Saree edits started as a fun trend but have also brought to light broader issues around AI, digital identity and privacy. Recently, Bollywood couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan filed separate lawsuits against misuse of their name, image and sought protection for their personality rights at a time when AI-generated celebrity memes and images are going viral on all social media platforms.

If an AI tool can introduce personal details you never gave (like a mole), it raises questions about how models are trained, what data is used, and how much personal digital identity is implicitly exposed.

The Gemini Nano Banana AI saree trend is a vivid example of how powerful and tempting AI image editing is. But as AI-generated content becomes more realistic, the potential for misuse, deepfakes, identity theft, or misattribution also grows at an unprecedented rate. Thus, it is important that you tread carefully — use verified sites and read privacy terms before uploading any pictures.
