A new report has claimed that the upcoming iPad Air 2 of US-based technology giant Apple is unlikely to be equipped with an IGZO display. The IGZO displays have been in the news and the company was supposed to include this technology into its next-generation iPad Air, but the recent report has discarded such claims.
The new report has also said that the iPad Air 3 will be the first iPad to feature an IGZO display, and the device will not be commercially available until 2015.
IGZO displays have the capability of offering better viewing angles over the existing LCD panels, while also providing greater color accuracy. Moreover, IGZO displays save energy compared to the current LCD displays, which would result in providing a better battery life.
The news has been released by Korea’s ETNews (via GforGames), which said that Sharp is presently is currently seeing low yield rates for the displays and that’s why it will not be able to manufacture them in a timely manner. In context to this news, the publication has assumed that the iPad Air 2 will not be equipped with such technology, but Apple will eventually be there in the next year’s iPad 3.
Apple has so far launched five iPad versions, and has continuously worked towards refreshing the line every year. Several reports have emerged online regarding the release of a second iPad Air. However, Apple is still to make an official announcement over it.… Read the rest
Yesterday, we wrote a feature comparing the interfaces of the iPhone 5 with the BlackBerry Z10. Today, we’re bringing you an in-depth comparison of the displays of these two popular smartphones. If viewing convenience is one of your most important criteria in deciding which gadget to pick, read on to see which of them is better.
Apple iPhone 5: The iPhone 5 has a slightly smaller 4-inch screen in comparison with the 4.2-inch offering of the Z10. Apple’s Retina Display technology gives the iPhone 5 a gorgeous resolution of 1136X640 pixels, which works to a ppi count of 326. It’s bright, colors are displayed quite well, and looks good overall.
BlackBerry Z10: The Z10’s 4.2-inch screen pips iPhone 5 not just in terms of screen size, but also when it comes to resolution. BlackBerry has put in a screen with a resolution of 1280X768 pixels, which is 356 pixels per inch. It’s sharp, it’s bright, and leaves us quite impressed.
In terms of screen brightness, the Z10 wins over the iPhone 5 – colors look more alive on the former when you keep the phones next to each other. Even the Z10’s color reproduction is more accurate. But when it comes to reading text or viewing videos, the performance of both these phones is pretty much tied. Of course, the extra 0.2-inches of the Z10 do make the phone’s screen a tad more comfortable.
If the comments coming from Sharp Executive are to be believed then there will be no delay in iPhone5‘s production.
An anonymous Sharp executive told Reuters that it is now making “adequate volumes” of displays.
In August, it was heard that due to manufacturing difficulties, Sharp may delay the production of iPhone 5 displays but as reported by PC Mag, Reuters today questioned whether Apple might have “sweeten[ed] financial incentives” for Sharp in order to get the iPhone 5 out on time.
Japan Display and Korea’s LG Display are other two companies which supply Apple with Touch screens.
With iPhone 5, Apple had decided to go for thinner and lighter touch screen which can aid in keeping the backlog. An iPhone 5 user can keep a backlog of three to four weeks.… Read the rest
With iPhone5 Apple has pitched the war against Samsung Galaxy S3. The thrilling battle has begun and what is there to see for us is how both the phones stand against each other in terms of display. Let’s have a look at both the warriors’ iPhone5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 and see who triumphs in the battle of display.
Display Size: S3 is big. It comes with 4.8-inch screen and there is no phone in the market as big as S3 (except Samsung’s own phone, Samsung Galaxy note which is more of a phablet). Apple iPhone5 undoubtedly looks bigger than its predecessor (iPhone4s with 3.5 inch screen) with 4 inch display but it falls short of S3 screen size by0 .8 inches.
Display resolution: Here iPhone 5 emerges as the clear winner with its 640 x 1136 pixels .Its clarity and richness is impressive (though HTC One X with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 312 PPI, certainly competes with Apple’s smaller, 4inch screen, which features a still attractive resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels but at a sharper 326 PPI) . The big and handsome Samung S3 with 720 x 1280 pixels at 306ppi fails to have clarity and sharpness which can be matched to iPhone5.
Visibility in sun: We give the trophy of daylight display to iPhone 5 as DisplayMate’s Raymond Soneira has rated iPhone 5 at 121 in terms of brightness and contrast and Samsung S3 at 45-57. What gives Samsung S3 less brightness when taken outdoors, is its much-hyped power management settings.
Technology behind displays: Apple is known for its Retina Display technology which became popular with iPhone4. iPhone 5 proudly boasts of Retina Display coupled with LED- backlit IPS TFT capacitive touch screen. Apple has made iPhone5 scratch resistant by coating the device with Corning’s Gorilla glass. On the other hand Samsung S3 sports Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with 16M colors. To give extra protection to the screen Samsung has also incorporated Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2 technology. Another thing which is appealing about Samsung S3 is its TouchWiz UI interface which makes for a great user experience
All in all iPhone 5 emerges as the clear winner in the war of displays. It’s only the screen size where iPhone 5 looses but when it comes to clarity and brightness is it hard to beat the delicious iPhone 5.
