WABetaInfo has reported that WhatsApp will soon be rolling out a new location sticker for users who want to update their location on the messaging app. So while you are traveling, you will be able to choose a sticker that shows your location. Using the location sticker, users can add their location in the WhatsApp story.
The Whatsapp location sticker will only be available for Beta Android users for now. However, it will soon be available for other Android users as well as iOS users.
This location sticker is not new to Instagram users. Years ago, Instagram had rolled out this feature for all its users. Most social media platforms allow users to share their location.
Whatsapp was slow to bring this change. However, TechThirsty editor Nishtha Shukla Anand says that she would be worried about this feature because it opens the door to a lot of information being shared on a very public platform. “While Whatsapp offers the end-to-end encryption security, I think one should still be cautious of sharing their location on a regular basis.” Location sharing can be switched off in the Settings on Android and iOS.
How does the location sticker works?
The location sticker can be added directly to the WhatsApp stories. Follow the steps below to add location to your story:
- The first step is to run the WhatsApp app on your IOS or Android device
- Then, swipe right from the chat section to go to the status section
- Here, you can easily choose to click a photo or record a video or even choose the one that is already in your phone storage
- Once the story is selected, just tap on the smiley icon located in the top right corner
- There you will see all the stickers available on the WhatsApp
- Just look for the location sticker and tap on it
- Remember to turn your device location on
- Once the location is turned on, your current location will be picked up which you can add on your post
- You can also choose a location for yourself
