China-based smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi created history on August 5, 2014 as it sold 15,000 units of its Mi 3 smartphone in just 2 seconds. Now the company has announced to put 20,000 handsets on Flipkart for its next flash sale scheduled to be conducted on August 12, 2014.
This is the largest lot being put by the company on the e-commerce site since it started the flash sale in July, but the number is still not sufficient looking at the amount of pre-registrations the smartphone received, roughly more than 100,000.
Hugo Barra, the company’s vice president for international operations, recently told tech blog BGR India that Xiaomi grossly underestimated the demand in India and apologized for frustrating customers. He also said that the company is presently working towards improving the situation.
Since the last two weeks, Xiaomi has been retailing the Mi 3 in the form of a flash sale on Flipkart, but the device has been available in limited units only.
The smartphone is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM. It has slightly upgraded specifications compared to the Sony Xperia Z2 which boasts the 2.3GHz quad-core 801 chip and 3GB of RAM. It has a 5-inch full HD display, with a 13MP rear camera, 8MP front snapper and a 3080mAh battery.
