Recent survey data from Steam reveals that the latest Microsoft Windows 8 is the fourth most popular operating system with a 4.6 percent user share, overtaking Apple’s Mac OS that was used by 3.3 percent users. The latest Steam hardware and software survey shows results for November, where 4.6 percent of Steam users use the 64-bit version of Windows 8.
About 72.6 per cent of Steam’s survey respondents use Window 7 and 8.1 per cent use Vista. At the same time, 11 per cent of customers use Vista even though a growing number of new games such as Assassin’s Creed 3 and Crysis 3 don’t support this OS anymore.
Although Windows 8 is picking up as an OS, developers are not positive about this new offering from Microsoft. Mojang co-founder Markus Persson, for instance, said he would rather have Minecraft not run on Windows 8 at all.
