Twitter Co-founder Jack Dorsey Elected to Disney’s Board of Directors

twitter-logoTwitter co-founder and Square CEO Jack Dorsey has been elected to Disney’s board of directors as an independent director. He replaces Judith Estrin, former CTO at Cisco Systems who leaves after serving for 15 years.

Dorsey joins other technology stalwarts like Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook and John Chen, CEO of Blackberry. In a statement, Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger said “Jack Dorsey is a talented entrepreneur who has helped create groundbreaking new businesses in the social media and commerce spaces. The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable, given our strategic priorities, which include utilizing the latest technologies and platforms to reach more people and to enhance the relationship we have with our customers.I am honored and humbled to join the Disney Board. Disney is a timeless company, one we all grow up learning from and admiring,” said Dorsey, confirming the news of his inclusion to Disney’s board of directors.

Given that Steve Jobs spent a number of years on the board and was Disney’s largest shareholder, there are some very obvious parallels between the co-founder of Apple and now Dorsey who is behind the success of Twitter and Square.
