Toshiba has recently released details about two new Windows-based tablet/ laptop hybrids – the Satellite Click 2 and Satellite Click 2 Pro. The 2-in-1 detachable PCs will be equipped with 13.3-inch removable displays and will operate on Windows 8.1. The devices will enable users to effortlessly switch from a full-featured laptop to a tablet in order to make things easier and more convenient, depending on necessities.
Philip Osako, senior director of product marketing at Toshiba America Information Systems, has been quoted saying that “We’ve developed two amazing detachables – one that delivers solid, everyday performance at a great price and another that features a premium performance configuration that the category has been missing. Yet both give consumers the productivity benefits of a laptop and the convenience and battery life of a tablet in one device.”
The new Satellite Click 2 is scheduled to be launched at end-June 2014 with a rumored price tag of USD587, and can be purchased exclusively through Best Buy and Toshiba’s own website. The device has a thickness of less than an inch and weighs 4.84 pounds in laptop mode and 2.8 pounds as a tablet. The machine will be equipped with an Intel Pentium N3530 processor, with the base model having 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a 13.3-inch detachable touchscreen. The device is part of efforts by the company to attract more mainstream buyers to laptop/tablet hybrids.
The Pro version will be equipped with a 128GB solid state drive, an Intel Core i5 processor and Harmon Kardon audio. The base model will come at a price of USD1,028, while a higher-end version with an Intel Core i7 processor and an extra battery built into the keyboard costs USD1,279. The Toshiba Satellite Click 2 Pro can be purchased only through Best Buy.
It has a stylish anodized aluminum brushed enclosure and has a thickness of 0.78 inches. The machine has a screen size of 13.3 inches with full HD removable display. Some of its other features include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, microHDMI and microUSB ports, wireless display support and Intel WiDi6 for screen sharing to big TVs. The tablet will also provide an option of a microSD card slot for additional memory.
The full-size keyboard base features LED backlit keys, two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port. The premium version is equipped with a secondary battery and an additional 500GB hard drive. Additionally, it will boast an HD webcam on the front and a 5-megapixel rear camera.
