2012 was the year of technology without a doubt, and as we bring the curtain down on this year, we at TechThirsty have decided to do a round-up of the best phones that were brought out in the year. We’re looking at the top 5 phones that made the headlines, set the cash registers ringing, and drew a huge fan following. So here goes our list:
Google Nexus 4: Google’s very own Android phone, the Nexus, saw its latest model being designed by LG. It features Android in its purest form, just the way Google wanted it to be, and it does look good. High on features like its predecessors, the Nexus 4 managed to grab quite a few eyeballs during its launch. Extremely affordable, we can’t help but forgive Googe and LG for not putting in the LTE connectivity feature in this phone.
Nokia Lumia 920: 2012 was the year Microsoft took a giant leap forward, consolidating its PC and phone OS and bringing out the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. This worked well for Nokia, which had been losing quite a bit of ground to iPhone and Android phones over the past couple of years. Nokia’s flagship Windows Phone 8 based smartphone, the Lumia 920, is quite the head-turner. And no, not just because it looks quirky! The gorgeous display, the PureView camera, Nokia’s apps like City Lens, Maps, etc., everything comes together in this successful offering.
HTC Droid DNA: Just when you thought Apple had the last say in all things high res, thanks to their Retina Display technology. HTC took it forward with its Droid DNA for Verizon with its full HD display. We’re talking about a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels in a 5-inch screen! Now, here’s where Android Jelly Bean truly looks gorgeous and comes alive.
Apple iPhone 5: So what if the screen size stays the same? Apple does manage to make headlines every time it brings out a new version of the iPhone, and this time too, the iPhone 5 didn’t disappoint. It’s slimmer, lighter, and faster – like all successors, and it’s amazing 8 MP camera is literally to die for! With its 360 degree Panorama feature, it’s meant for the shutterbugs. And iOS6 works like a dream!
Samsung Galaxy S3: This was one that quite simply took our breath away. Notwithstanding its ongoing tussle with Apple over patent infringement suits, 2012 was the year of Samsung without a doubt. The Galaxy S3 with its pebble-like curves is one of the bestsellers in the smartphone world – with over 30 million pieces sold since its launch. It propelled Android into greater popularity, and well, it’s brilliant!
