The Best Selfie Smartphones At IFA 2014

Selfie—It’s clearly the word of the year—possibly the decade. We see individuals or groups taking selfies all the time. Whether it is college goers, office goers or trendy mothers, everyone wants the best selfie smartphones. Popular celebrities including Rihanna and Justin Bieber have contributed in a big way to popularising the trend, and now politicians are also taking selfies.

Clearly, smartphone companies have understood the trend of the selfie and have come up with smartphones and apps that are specially designed to provide a better selfie experience to the user. 

Several phones were launched during the IFA 2014 to give better and sharper selfies. Gerrit Schneemann, an analyst at research firm HIS, has been quoted saying, “The ‘selfie phone’ race resembles the megapixel race for cameras on the back of the phone. Handset makers try to satisfy a specific use case by including more powerful features in the front camera.” We look at the best selfie smartphones launched at IFA this year:

Lumia 730

In this league, Microsoft launched its Lumia 730 that is equipped with a 5MP front camera along with software that will enable users to make the picture better and sharper after taking its. The phone will also have a 6.7MP rear camera for better photography experience. At the same time, the smartphone will have a 4.7-inch HD ClearBlack display and will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon chip and 1GB of memory. 

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

galaxy note 4 teaserSamsung also launched its two new smartphones – the Galaxy Note 4 and the Note Edge – that are perfect for a selfie experience as both these smartphones feature a special wide-angle option, enabling the users to fit more people into their selfies by joining several images together.

Lenovo Vibe Z2, Vibe X2

Lenovo also showcased its Vibe Z2 and Vibe X2 phones that are equipped with 8MP and 5MP front cameras respectively. The smartphones feature a special function that triggers the camera to snap the shot by smiling, blinking or making a “V” gesture.

HTC Desire 820

Additionally, HTC launched its new Desire 820 device that features an 8MP front-facing camera, while China’s Huawei showcased its Ascend Mate2 4G having a 5MP front camera and a wide-angle option like Samsung.
