TEGRA 4 VS TEGRA 3: NVIDIA Steps Up Its Game With Tegra 4 Processor At CES 2013

CES 2013 is about to begun in Las Vegas, NVIDIA kick started in style with the revealing of Tegra 4 SoC processor. The processor is going to sport 72 GeForce GPU cores with 4K video support which is encapsulates 6 times visual processing power as compared to Tegra 3.

Tegra 3 was used in  smartphones from HTC and LG, and tablets such as Google’s Nexus 7, Microsoft Surface and Asus’s Transformer.

Tegra 4 will also house ARM Cortex A15 Chip and a second generation battery saver core.  Tegra 4 will measure 28 nm and would load thing on a tablet or a phone in 27 sec as compared to previous 50 seconds.

The processor uses PRISM 2 technology so that backlight uses lesser power. The most impressive feature of this processor is that it has been in accordance with NVIDIA Computational Photography Architecture which enhances the picture quality also lessens the time of taking the picture by 10 times.

Tegra 4 will be able to play videos which carry 4 times the HD quality. It is said to support up to 1.4 trillion operations per second and is 40% smaller than traditional baseband chips.

“Tegra 4 provides enormous processing power and efficiency to power smartphones and tablets, gaming devices, auto systems and PCs,” said Phil Carmack, senior vice president of the Tegra business at NVIDIA. “Its new capabilities, particularly in the area of computational photography, will help improve a whole range of existing products and lead to the creation of exciting new ones.”
