Xbox One has already grabbed a lot of spotlight in the past few days after announcing that it would launch the Xbox One console on a global basis.
Microsoft seems to have adopted a broadcasted and a synchronized manner of appealing to global crowds and inviting them to get a sneak peak at the gaming consoles and has also kept the first Xbox One unit well guarded by spying sharks.
It is pretty much evident that Microsoft aims to present the next-gen gaming console amidst lot of hoopla and with a bang.
However, don’t expect Sony to sit back silently and remain overshadowed even as Microsoft bags all the limelight. Sony will be changing the look of the OXO tower to portray the striking buttons seen on the DualShock 4 controller. Moreover, on the day when Sony launches the PlayStation 4, it has also promised that it will be revealing another new game that will be added to the esteemed launch list along with that of PS4. Some websites are reporting that Sony seems to have already dropped clues and hints regarding the yet to be launched new game.
Battle heats up in online sphere
The launch of PS4 has already taken the console market by storm and the Xbox One will be launched in a few days. Needless to say, the fight for hype and attention is only increasing on various social media networks. Forbes has collected some important key involving the social media’ role in the battle between Xbox One and PS4 and how the cyberspace is molding the rivalry and what is the extent of influence cast by social media debates and opinions on prospective buyers of either of the devices.
Quite obvious to state, the presence and discussion in different social media networks is propelled by various announcements, news reports and other updates involving the two consoles.
You probably might have already heard of the Oculus Rift tale by now. The sample hardware which has been made available to different developers in still in nascent stages but it is already gearing for a commercial release. Till the commercial release happens, the Oculus Rift team has their hands full with a lot of prodding and tweaking which is still left to be completed.
One of the team members at Oculus Rift creator stated that the team was busy developing higher resolution, position-based tracking which will enable them at tracking the entire movement via space, which will reduce latency and motion blur. These are some of the most harrowing issues that tend to disappoint players and rob them off the actual experience.
Research in motion
For Oculus, one of the most challenging hurdles has been to overcome the motion sickness issue. One of the team members has assured that the Oculus team has registered considerable progress in solving the motion sickness issue. The team member also mentioned that they have already developed internal prototypes for some specific content that eliminates motion sickness completely. The developer also added that their new hardware is far more advanced and reduces the possibility of someone suffering motion sickness to a great extent.
Though the Oculus team has made considerable progress while trying to fix motion sickness, it should not be coming as a surprise for players to experience slight uneasiness during replicated motion at high speed. The run speed clocked in the Unreal Tournament 3 comes close to 30 miles per hour while the instant acceleration backward reaches 40 miles per hour, which the human body might face some awkwardness in handling.
The team member added that there is lot of work to be done for making games function in VR so as to make games that don’t make players sick and at the same time, well considering the VR’s limitations.
In the past it was quite difficult to compare between two game consoles because of the completely different built. However, comparing bandwidth, clock speed and FLOPS can be done. But it is different with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, things are different. With regard to the costly customised chips, Sony and Microsoft have chosen to command semi-customised GPU/CPU from the same base of architecture that AMD is presently selling in computers.
The CPU comes with 5 billion transistors, 47Mbtes of storage on chip, 28Nm TSMC HP and power island and clock to 2.5% of the aggregate power. Both the PS$ and Xbox One processor make use of the similar number of computing cores and similar AMD Jaguar built. However, the real difference lies in the clock speed. Whilst the Xbox One Processor was given a recent raise to 1.75Ghz, Sony hasn’t stated any CPU speed figure. However, Xbox One offers a slight edge over PS4. Jaguar is not the fastest AMD processor architecture- it was designed for low power systems such as tablets.
In simple words, with the given size of box and chip, the consoles can do small jobs at one go and thus it made sense for both the console designers to opt for more cores instead of choosing faster ones.
Microsoft has MHz and Sony features more Hardware
When it comes to GPU, the two consoles differ a lot. But, they share similar architecture AMD Sea Islands and GPUs Radeon 7000 and 8000 series. While the GPU of Xbox One runs at 853MHz, for PS4 is runs at 800MHz.
The GPU of PS4 has more hardware in it – 12CU in the Xbox One and 18 CU of AMD.
