Taking a plunge into the tablet market, Barnes and Nobles offer these latest tablets called the Nook Tablet HD and Nook Tablet HD+ with a 7-inch and 9-inch display. The bookseller firm takes a direct hit at its rival Amazon who offers a smaller Kindle Fire tablet.

Offering users a 9-inch tablet, with price lower than $300, Barnes and Nobles hopes to take on other competitors such as Google and Apple.

However, considering the prices, these tablets do beat its competitors as the Nook Tablet HD will cost $199, while the HD+ has a $269 price range.

The 7-inch display is same as Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD’s 7-inch model and Google’s Nexus 7. The larger tablet is actually $30 cheaper than the new Kindle HD 8.9 on Wi-Fi, and is also much less than the $499 base model of the new iPad.

But even cutting down the prices of large tabs will be a little difficult to convince users to pick up Nooks instead of an iPad or Nexus as they have better apps in app store, better clarity, better resolution etc.

These Nook tabs come equipped with an e-mail service and weigh just 18.2 ounces. They will also hold access to the company’s curated app store. With a screen resolution of 256 pixels per inch, these tabs will run on 1.3 Ghz. dual-core processors. The 9-inch tablet has 16 GB of memory, and will come in a 32 GB model for $299. The 7-inch tablet comes in a choice of white or black color, and has 8 GB of memory for $199 or 16 GB for $229.

Up for pre-orders now, Barnes and Noble will ship these tabs in late October. They will hit the shelves in stores, starting November.… Read the rest
