Nokia has paired up with Windows 8 in avatars more than one but all of us kept looking out for a Samsung installment that could come with Windows 8 pre-loaded. And here it is– Samsung ATIV Odyssey comes on Verizon’s network and with Windows 8, packed in with 4G LTE connectivity.

Samsung has been a real miracle worker when it comes to designing smartphones with an edge. The Odyssey lives up to this. However, this is the bottom-line—it merely lives up to the Korean maker’s promise—nothing more. The only thing that caught our eye is the metallic finish. However, we thought the phone could be bit less sloppy. On the physical count, Samsung fails to bring in something to indeed watch out for.

The typical Samsung offering is well placed again with the Odyssey—the three capacitive button for Windows, we mean. The display leaves its upper areas spaced for accommodating proximity and light sensors and a decent front cam of 1.2 MP. The buttons are uber-responsive and the slightest touch brings them onto gear.

Add to this a micro SD slot for a chip and the usual 3.5 mm jack and microphone– but we fail to find anything latest in this aspect either.

Coming to the rear camera, the shutter impresses with its auto-focus, 5-MP feature. The biggest winner in the Odyssey perhaps comes with the WVGA (480 x 800) Super AMOLED display, of 4 inches. The intensity of the screen is wow-worthy but the  PenTile arrangement only undermines its effect. Till then, let’s see how well the world takes to Odyssey.
