Research in Motion surely seems to be up in action all of a sudden. After the recent announcement regarding the expected launch date of their latest smartphone OS, BlackBerry 10, the company has also announced the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) 7. RIM is offering its customers a free update to its most popular mobile social network, with a brand new feature that would let users make free calls to other BBM users over WiFi connections.
The BBM service lets BlackBerry users IM contacts and also sends updates on when the message has been delivered and read. The latest version of BBM would now let users even talk for free – over WiFi networks, with other BBM users located anywhere in the world. BBM users would even get to talk and text simultaneously, making the device a very attractive option. The company has even stated that BBM Voice can help businesses improvie collaboration among their workforce.
BBM Voice comes with a host of new features, including the option to switch instantly from BBT text chat to talk and back, a split-screen feature for simultaneous texting and talking, visual indicators to let users know when their contacts are available for talking, compatibility with Bluetooth or hands-free headsets, and text back when users find it inconvenient to talk.
BBM 7 with the BBM Voice feature is presently in the Beta testing phase and can be downloaded on BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry OS 6 or higher. The version can be downloaded for free from the BlackBerry Beta Zone.
