Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 in December. If this news has to be believed, we anticipate that next year most of the android headsets will feature the next-generation SoC by the company.
The successor to Snapdragon 835, the new chip may be announced during the Snapdragon Technology Summit, which is going to take place in Maui, Hawai, between Dec 4 and Dec 8. However, there is no mention of Snapdragon 845 in invites to the event. The Snapdragon 835 was announced a year before in January 2017 during CES 2017.
So far we know that the Snapdragon 845 could have been manufactured using 19nm Low Power Early (LPE) FinFET process. The new chip is likely to feature four ARM Cortex-A75 cores and four ARM Cortex- A53 cores. The upcoming Qualcomm SoC will be used along the Adreno 630 GPU, which might significantly improve graphical performance. The current Snapdragon 835 comes along with the Adreno 540.
Due to increasing interest of smartphone manufacturers in Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, the upcoming Snapdragon is also expected to be optimised for both VR as well as AR experiences. The upcoming chipset may also get Kyro cores update and X20 connectivity modem that has a downlink speed of 1.2Gbps.
A rumour indicates that the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones will be first to feature the Snapdragon 845. On the other hand, the other rumour claims that Xiaomi’s next flagship mobile will be first to come with the upcoming chipset. This is because; the latter is likely to release before the Galaxy 9 series.
