Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL users will be able to update their wares over the air following a Microsoft firmware update today. The latest update will add a host of features on the Lumia 640 for those using it over T-Mobile network. The better bit here is that the update is available for regional and unlocked handset versions and thus, users can access the update over the Microsoft official server as well.

Microsoft Unveils Firmware Update For Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL The operating system on these Lumia handsets will jump up to the 15148 version. This is a leap from the existing version 15127 on Lumia 640 and 640 XL. The latest gesture add-ons to be found post-update are-

  • Voice over LTE grade support for specific operators
  • Wi-Fi calling support for T-Mobile and EE UK users of Lumia 640
  • Enhanced audio quality

  • Better cellular connectivity

We are not yet sure when the Lumia 640 is set to launch but we did sniff news that Walmart is raking in some marketing for the same.  More so, the main surprise here is the adding of Voice over LTE on the handset. Users can now gain hands on what we term HD voice on the Lumia variant.  You can check if you can receive the update by accessing- Settings > Phone Update > Check for Update.
