Microsoft has announced to hold all its upcoming events online throughout this year. The announcement by the popular tech giant has come as the novel coronavirus continues to spread and cause havoc across the world.
Furthermore, the software conglomerate may further extend its decision well into the upcoming year. As per the media reports, Microsoft is planning to make all its internal and external events digital-only until July 2021.
The Verge had reported that an internal email was sent to the company’s most valuable professionals (MVP) announcing the decision. The email reportedly said that in light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, Microsoft has been closely monitoring the developing global situation and reassessing its overall in-person event strategy.
The email further read, “As a company, Microsoft has made the decision to transition all external and internal events to a digital-first experience through July 2021.”
Key Microsoft events cancelled or shifted online so far
Notably, Microsoft had already cancelled the in-person event for its developer conference Build 2020. The flagship developer conference was originally set to be held in the United States from May 19 to May 21, 2020.
Furthermore, Microsoft has also announced to hold the 2020 edition of ‘Ignite’ in a digital-only format. Ignite is Microsoft’s final major conference of the year for IT professionals and developers which is scheduled for September 2020.
As per the company’s officials, Microsoft would now be relying on its digital tools and internal teams to hold events remotely in the digital-only format. Microsoft’s shift to online-only events in light of the present situation is indeed a welcome move. The current crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has indeed been a testing time for most industries including tech.
