Research in Motion shares went up by 5% on Wednesday after the handset company announced the launch of the BlackBerry 10 slated for early next year. It had better-than-expected subscriber numbers which further tipped the share price in its favor. The company added 2 million subscribers in the past quarter and now has a total subscriber base of 80 million worldwide.

Bloomberg has reported that RIM chief executive Thorsten Heins set achievable goals for the company and said that he wants to make BlackBerry 10 the third-place operating system in the world. He is likely seeing the OS after Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. The Blackberry 10 will go on sale in early 2013.

The maker of BlackBerry phones is planning an ambitious launch, which is likely to improve excitement for their phones in the market. The company has said that they will roll out phones running BlackBerry 10 across six continents.

The company revealed some features of the upcoming operating system such as a keyboard that can type in multiple languages, as reported by Laptop Magazine.  However, the company has not released any device for the system. While BB10 should launch in January, they will follow up the new hardware soon after.
