Aakash 2 Soon to Be Available at Price of Rs. 1900

Indian government’s low cost tablet Aakash 2 will now be available at a further discounted price of Rs. 1900 or $35, Kapil Sibal said at a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) organised by Telecom Equipment and Service Export Promotion Council. This is 10 dollars less than the existing price.

Sibal said that the Indian government is now looking for Cabinet approval after which it will be able to manufacture 50 lakh units of the Aakash tablet in India. He also added, “A global tender for its production in the country will be floated then”. The Aakash 2 tablet was launched earlier this month. The tablet has been designed, developed and manufactured by DataWind Ltd. for supply to IIT Bombay.

DataWind will be supplying 100,000 units of Aakash 2 to IIT Bombay, which will further be distributed to engineering university and college students.
