Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Hands On Review: A Sexy Delicate Darling

With every new release, Samsung seems to be working harder to retain their space in the smartphones market. The company routinely experiments with innovative designs and features. To an extent where they have also lured avid Apple users. Latest in their kitty is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which is quite an example of how workmanship can make a phone stand out from the crowd.

S6 Plus hand on reviewLets first talk about its design. The phone has a silver titanium built instead of the plastic casing that we are used to. Metal gives an instant sophistication to the phone. Smooth round edges and a glossy finish further refine the look. Note here that this phone is a delicate darling and will need careful handling.

A metal and glass construction makes the phone slippery but if you are one of those who really like to flaunt a good-looking phone, this one is for you. The volume rocker and power button are easy to reach. What I don’t like about this phone is the placing of the home button, which is located on the lower bezel. Why not go for a digital home button?  We are innovating right…

The curved display is appealing but a word of caution for callous people. If it drops, reviving the screen would be an arduous task.

We spoke to some users of the phone. S6 Edge Plus user Priyanka Sharma says, “Ergonomic, not really….with this size tough to achieve. Was not even expecting it. It’s expensive but it’s sexy both in looks and features. Quad HD display is sharper than any other phone available in the market.” (sic)

Not much has changed under the hood. It has a 4GB RAM and an expandable memory of up to 32 GB. The phone runs on Android Lollipop 5.1.1 but we are expecting a Marshmallow update soon. The interface has all the general features of any other high-end Samsung phone. Gear app, S Health, S Voice, SideSync, Galaxy App store and S Planner. You get it all.

Lets come to the camera. Avid user Manasvani Yogi says, “It has a wonderful camera, better than the iPhone 6.” The phone works well even in low light conditions and offers editing with various effects. Users can view these changes in real time. It has a 19MP rear camera with F1.9, which results in heavy pictures that often eat into your storage space.

For those who use their phones extensively, the long battery life of 14 hours helps. It has a 3000mAh battery that can be revived with a wireless charging feature.

“The wireless charger is quite cool and convenient. Camera is great too. I enjoy the big screen for reading and writing,” adds Sharma.

It also comes packed with a live broadcast feature which lets you stream your phone’s screen contents on your YouTube channel.

Lastly the phone has a superb call quality and most of the users say they have not experienced any call drops yet.

The final word here. If you want a beautiful phone with breakthrough features, go for this Samsung beauty. … Read the rest

Hands On Review: Asus ZenFone Go Is Average

Asus Zenfone 2 Release DateAsus has launched its new phone ZenFone Go for the Indian market. We picked it up quickly from Flipkart to realize that it might not be a stellar phone but it’s comfortable to work with.

Features of the Asus ZenFone Go

The latest Asus phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop-based ZenUI because of which it is user friendly and rich in features. Like many newcomers, this is also a dual sim phone. I like this trend because you can easily swap from one network provider to another without any hassle. It houses a quad-core MediaTek (MT6580) processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 2GB of RAM. To start with, most of the apps worked fine. Only time will tell how this phone faces the onslaught of more apps and multiple downloads. It could get sluggish in the longer run.

A sigh of relief comes because it has an 8GB inbuilt storage. Like most other phones, it also offers expandable storage. Memory of the phone can be extended up to 64 GB.

We loved…

It’s the look of the phone that really floored us. The angled bottom and clean black finish are delightful. A fairly large display of 5-inch with IPS display provides clarity when in use. Image quality is good with a screen resolution of 720×1280 pixels.

Let’s come to the camera. The phone has an 8MP camera at the back with an aperture of f/2.0. So the pictures came out well. However, the 2MP front camera was a dampener. It has a dull look so people who enjoy selfies may not like it.

Sure enough, there are the regular features of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, GPS/A-GPS and Micro-USB connectivity options. Additionally, the phone comes with 100GB Google Drive storage. The price of this phone is about Rs.7999. Pick it up if you don’t want to do much with your phone.

Leaked Images of OnePlus Mini Suggest New Look

OnePlus had promised that they would be launching more than one smartphone this year. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei even hinted in August that they could be introducing a handset around Christmas. However, this could come true sooner than you thought. Recently leaked images of a purported OnePlus device have hit the Internet with two cameras at the back.

Leaked Images of OnePlus Mini Doing Rounds on the InternetBeing dubbed as the OnePlus Mini by experts, this phone seems to have a design different than the previous two models. The images were leaked on a Chinese site and they show only the front and back panels.

It is to be noted that leaked photographs of the speculated OnePlus One Mini smartphone were all over the Internet late last year. However, the OnePlus images revealed recently are different from those seen earlier.

This time round, we prominently see a dual-camera feature at the back of the alleged smartphone from OnePlus. The images earlier showed a front panel with fingerprint scanner, that doesn’t surface in the recent leaks.

With such foggy information, it would be difficult to determine what the rumored OnePlus Mini would really entail. However, it is expected that more information would be available as we near the launch date.… Read the rest

Blackberry Keen On Patent Monetization And Heightening Innovation: Chen

Speaking at the Waterloo Innovation Summit, BlackBerry chief executive John Chen has said that their portfolio of patents is the trump card the company is placing its bets on. This is part of a turnaround strategy from Blackberry as they plan to focus on enterprise and software wings for now.

A massive patent portfolio

Blackberry currently has close to 44000 patents, confirmed Chen. Interestingly,Blackberry Keen On Patent Monetization And Heightening Innovation they also have one of the youngest portfolio patents in the market. In such a scenario, Blackberry is eyeing to monetize all major patents to move the company forward.

BlackBerry’s first quarter results have revealed that they have seen massive profits from the monetization of IPs. The licensing and software-based revenues have seen a hike by more than 150 percent and currently stands at $137 million.

The big deal is

The profits follow a couple of new licensing deals BlackBerry has etched with Cisco Systems Inc and with another unannounced company. Chen states that the main challenge lies in creating a balance between securing its patents and monetizing the same using collaboration-based licensing deals. He says, “If you go too far and become too aggressive, you become a (patent) troll.”

He also stated that if monetization is gradual, then it consumes a lot of extra time but the time factor is a way more important factor than one thinks. Therefore, the need of the hour is to strike a healthy balance.  For now, Blackberry plans on heightening its innovation and staying at the top of its game in the field of secure communications. He wrapped up saying, “The fact that a company is financially not doing that well doesn’t mean it can’t innovate.” … Read the rest

Yu Yunique Phone: Get Oodles of Features Without Breaking Your Bank

The budget smartphone market has got another player in the face of Yu Yunique. The phone is indeed high on specifications and low on budget, the proposition that will appeal to masses. I recently met one of my college friends who is a struggling filmmaker, she told me phones like Yu Yunique is a blessing. She has been looking for a phone which looks and feel good but does not burn a hole in her pocket.Hyundai smartphone key connectivity concept

“Honestly, not everyone can afford high-end smartphones… I can at least boast about this one” she said.

True that. iPhones and Galaxy range is not everyone’s cup of tea. Phones like Yu Yunique truly add a new dimension to the smartphone market. The phone is in high demand and it was a complete sold out on a few-ecommerce websites. Here are the specifications:

The phone has a plastic build and a screen size of 4.7-inch. It is easy to handle and fits into your pocket… so no more rummaging your handbag to find your phone. In looks department it is a clear winner, thanks to its 8.3mm thickness and 120 gm weight.

We found working on the phone was easy breezy. The pages opened swiftly and it was not sluggish. The phone houses 1.2GHz processor by Qualcomm and has 1 GB of RAM. It comes packed with Android Lollipop OS and cynogen MOD OS. For those looking for dual-sim, this is the phone for you.

The part we did not like about t was front camera. It does not give great results with low light. Plus the 8GB memory is a dampener; you will need a micro SD card. But we don’t see any solid reason why you should not buy this phone if you are on a budget.

A good offering which will not ask you to break your bank. … Read the rest
