Nokia Lumia 920 VS iPhone4S: Windows 8 Phone Wins Hands Down

iPhone 5 is just a few hours away. While each of us await with baited breath for the veil to go up and put all our anxiety to rest, it would be a good idea to reminisce iPhone 4S and see where it stands against Nokia’s flagship Smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 920.

Screen Size: Not much difference here, both the Smartphone sport the same screen size with a just a difference of an inch. The IPS- based screen lends both the phones finer and sharper display capabilities but in terms of pixel resolution Lumia wins hands down with 4.5-inch 1280 x 768 panel (where as iPhone 4S has a 3.5-inch 960 x 640 panel).

Touch Capability: Both the screens have similar pixel density at 330ppi but what comes as a surprise is that Nokia’s panel has an ability to detect touch inputs even through gloved hands, which is not something we have seen happening with iPhone 4S.

Which is swifter to use? Again Lumia wins here. Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, which features a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU paired with an Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB RAM makes for a pleasurable  experience where as iPhone’s dual-core A5 chipset is clocked at 1GHz combined with a high-performance PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics.

The OS:  Apple always had an edge when it comes to the operating system. iOS is still a breeze to use and choices in the App Store makes iOS more drool worthy. On the other hand Windows 8 Phone looks innovative and bright but its biggest loophole is its limited third-party application network, at least compared to iOS and Android.

The Camera War: Nokia Lumia with 920’s 8.7-megapixel camera with PureView technology dethrones the iPhone4s (8-megapixel sensor on its camera is paired with a LED flash and features like autofocus, geo-tagging, face detection and 1080p video recording with image stabilization)- the Camera king. Nokia Lumia comes with Carl Zeiss optics and a wider aperture, which gives great pictures even in the low-light conditions.

We have done this face-off to see in what all areas Apple needs to work on before it gives iPhone 5 in consumer’s hands. There is no doubt that Lumia 920 is one hell of phone but what remains to see how iPhone 5 would beat it.
