Why Instagram Took Over Twitter? People Talk

With 400 million active users monthly, Instagram is riding high on success leaving its immediate rival Twitter far behind. The recent development is going to boost advertising revenues to a great extend for Instagram.

instagram takes over twitterIn about nine months, the photo sharing website owned by Facebook has pulled in the latest 100 million users including celebrities like former athlete Caitlyn Jenner and soccer player David Beckham. It is worth mentioning that more than 50% of the newly-joined users are from outside of the USA. Most of them are from Europe and Asia with Japan, Brazil and Indonesia topping the list for having maximum number of users.

While Instagram users seem to be rising fast, Twitter seems to be struggling to draw in new users. Analysts are of the opinion that it is not Snapchat or Instagram, which are pulling down people’s interest on Twitter but the business model of the company itself.

Enders Analysis head of digital media Ian Maude told CNBC recently, “I think the concerns over Twitter are more general, i.e. it’s not about Instagram, it’s about while its growth has stalled, other social media, other instant messaging and communications services and tools continue to grow and it’s being outgrown and outpaced and I think that is the worry.”

One big reason for the success of Instagram is that it is used over the phone. This allows more people to use it on a regular basis. The app is a lot more user friendly when compared to Twitter. Plus, there’s no need to think of witty lines. Images do speak louder than words.

Back home, we spoke to some people and asked them which one they preferred. They had some really interesting things to say.

Software professional Arunima Bhattacharya said, “Because Instagram is more about pictures….we humans are narcissists after all.” Simply put, the younger generation wants to share their happy moments with friends all the time. Instagram is a faster and easier way to do that.

A student Chandan Lohia said, “Both have their own utility. When it comes to sharing updates, Twitter handles it better but instant image sharing is handled by Instagram better…. !!!”

Which is the one you prefer more and why? We are waiting to hear what you think. Leave us your comments below.… Read the rest

Flipkart Co-Founders Make It To Forbes India Rich ListRevealing the top ranks

The top spot has not seen any shift with Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries Limited retaining the position with a net worth of $18.9 billion. Ambani has been topping the Forbes India list for the last eight years but this year saw his net worth drop by about $4.7 billion owing to plummeting oil prices that adversely affected the company.

The second rank is occupied by Dilip Sanghvi of Sun Pharmaceuticals, who has a net worth of $18 billion. Third in line is Azim Premji, who is the chairman of IT major Wipro. He has a net worth of $15.9 billion. His figures fell by $500 million compared to last year, given that he pledging 18 per cent of his stake to a trust.

The Women’s Club

Noticeably, only a couple of women have made it to the top 100 list for billionaires in India. First up is USV Limited chairman Leena Tiwari with a net worth of $1.9 billion and Bennett, Coleman And Co Limited’s chairperson Indu Jain with a net worth of $1.85 billion.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Hands On Review: A Sexy Delicate Darling

With every new release, Samsung seems to be working harder to retain their space in the smartphones market. The company routinely experiments with innovative designs and features. To an extent where they have also lured avid Apple users. Latest in their kitty is the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which is quite an example of how workmanship can make a phone stand out from the crowd.

S6 Plus hand on reviewLets first talk about its design. The phone has a silver titanium built instead of the plastic casing that we are used to. Metal gives an instant sophistication to the phone. Smooth round edges and a glossy finish further refine the look. Note here that this phone is a delicate darling and will need careful handling.

A metal and glass construction makes the phone slippery but if you are one of those who really like to flaunt a good-looking phone, this one is for you. The volume rocker and power button are easy to reach. What I don’t like about this phone is the placing of the home button, which is located on the lower bezel. Why not go for a digital home button?  We are innovating right…

The curved display is appealing but a word of caution for callous people. If it drops, reviving the screen would be an arduous task.

We spoke to some users of the phone. S6 Edge Plus user Priyanka Sharma says, “Ergonomic, not really….with this size tough to achieve. Was not even expecting it. It’s expensive but it’s sexy both in looks and features. Quad HD display is sharper than any other phone available in the market.” (sic)

Not much has changed under the hood. It has a 4GB RAM and an expandable memory of up to 32 GB. The phone runs on Android Lollipop 5.1.1 but we are expecting a Marshmallow update soon. The interface has all the general features of any other high-end Samsung phone. Gear app, S Health, S Voice, SideSync, Galaxy App store and S Planner. You get it all.

s6 3

Lets come to the camera. Avid user Manasvani Yogi says, “It has a wonderful camera, better than the iPhone 6.” The phone works well even in low light conditions and offers editing with various effects. Users can view these changes in real time. It has a 19MP rear camera with F1.9, which results in heavy pictures that often eat into your storage space.

For those who use their phones extensively, the long battery life of 14 hours helps. It has a 3000mAh battery that can be revived with a wireless charging feature.

“The wireless charger is quite cool and convenient. Camera is great too. I enjoy the big screen for reading and writing,” adds Sharma.

It also comes packed with a live broadcast feature which lets you stream your phone’s screen contents on your YouTube channel.

Lastly the phone has a superb call quality and most of the users say they have not experienced any call drops yet.

The final word here. If you want a beautiful phone with breakthrough features, go for this Samsung beauty. … Read the rest

Is 3D Printing An Opportunity Or A Threat?

3d_Printing pros and consScientists and engineers are excited about 3D printing. It’s a breakthrough in the sense that it could be used to create costly things at a low cost, thus lowering the cost of manufacturing. The benefits should flow down to the end user because medical expenses or technical gadgets could become more affordable. However, live anything new, there are two sides to this too.

To begin with, 3D printing was being used by some engineers and technical experts since the 1980s. However, it has received hype only recently. The availability of 3D printers at cost-effective prices has allowed people to explore the benefits of this technology. Even US President Barack Obama spoke about it in one of his speeches. He said, “(3D printing) …has the potential to revolutionize the way we make almost anything.”

Reducing the complexity of medical science

With more viable and cost-effective 3D printing solutions coming to the market, it is expected that the benefits of this technology will spread to almost every field in the near future. Medical science and healthcare are expected to benefit significantly from this technology. Reports suggest that researchers are now  busy exploring the possibility of replacing complex human organs with 3D printed objects.

Some researchers at Princeton University have even printed a replica of the outer ear using silver nano particles, human cells and hydrogel. Therefore, it will not be wrong to expect that the new technology will bring some breakthrough changes in the medical stream.

Also known as additive manufacturing, 3D printing can also make a great difference to the lives of automotive engineers and industrial developers. They will be able to visualize the model or prototype of the product they manufacture, resulting in greater accuracy.

Creative professionals are worried sick

Those who are working in the creative fields are worried about what 3D printing would do to their business. It is already being expected that the retail and sports sectors could also enjoy some significant changes if 3D printing becomes a more viable option in the coming times.

However, designers are worried that this technology could sound the death knell for creativity. Kayne West spoke about it on the show Keeping Up With The Kardashians,  “This is what I’m afraid of–because the Internet destroyed the music industry and now, this is what we’re afraid of right now with the textile industry.” He added, “There will come a time when people are making their shoes at home.”

Tell us what you think about this technology. Would it cause more harm than good? Would it be good to have a check on 3D printing practices?

Hands On Review: Asus ZenFone Go Is Average

Asus Zenfone 2 Release DateAsus has launched its new phone ZenFone Go for the Indian market. We picked it up quickly from Flipkart to realize that it might not be a stellar phone but it’s comfortable to work with.

Features of the Asus ZenFone Go

The latest Asus phone runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop-based ZenUI because of which it is user friendly and rich in features. Like many newcomers, this is also a dual sim phone. I like this trend because you can easily swap from one network provider to another without any hassle. It houses a quad-core MediaTek (MT6580) processor clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 2GB of RAM. To start with, most of the apps worked fine. Only time will tell how this phone faces the onslaught of more apps and multiple downloads. It could get sluggish in the longer run.

A sigh of relief comes because it has an 8GB inbuilt storage. Like most other phones, it also offers expandable storage. Memory of the phone can be extended up to 64 GB.

We loved…

It’s the look of the phone that really floored us. The angled bottom and clean black finish are delightful. A fairly large display of 5-inch with IPS display provides clarity when in use. Image quality is good with a screen resolution of 720×1280 pixels.

Let’s come to the camera. The phone has an 8MP camera at the back with an aperture of f/2.0. So the pictures came out well. However, the 2MP front camera was a dampener. It has a dull look so people who enjoy selfies may not like it.

Sure enough, there are the regular features of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, GPS/A-GPS and Micro-USB connectivity options. Additionally, the phone comes with 100GB Google Drive storage. The price of this phone is about Rs.7999. Pick it up if you don’t want to do much with your phone.

A Teardown Review of the iPad Mini 4

iPad Mini 4 vs iPad Air 2When Apple launched the iPad Mini 4, they claimed it was similar to the iPad Air 2 in terms of hardware specifications. iFixit has cracked open the new kid on the block to reveal their similarities in terms of features and design. From the features suggested on the apple website, one could easily give it to the iPad Mini 4 that it’s a smaller version of the iPad Air 2. Lets look at the similarities they enjoy according to iFixit.

Measurements of the iPad Mini 4 are pretty close to the iPad Air 2. Both the devices are really thin at 6.1mm. At the same time, iFixit has pointed out that the iPad Mini 4 also comes with the full laminated screen technology,  much like the iPad Air 2.

Also Read: Apple Launches iPad Mini 4- Indian Buyers Will Have To Wait

The website also suggests that the Touch ID cable of the iPad Mini 4 is now directly integrated into the display cable, which was also brought into the iPad Air 2. Note that this makes it extremely hard to repair the display panel if needed.

iPad Mini 4 has a single cell battery, which makes it easier to take it out when required. Not only that, the iFixit review suggests the battery is thinner and smaller than that of the iPad Mini 3. The Apple website says iPad Mini 4 has a 19.1 Wh battery.

Some other feature worth noting are the 8MP rear camera along with 1.2MP front camera, which are also provided with the iPad Air 2. Again, both tablets enjoy Apple’s A8 processor and M8 co-processor. However, the iPad Mini 4 now comes with the iOS 9, which makes it an advancement over the bigger iPad Air 2.

The problem with most of Apple’s products is that they are hard to repair. This issue is going to haunt iPad Mini 4 users as well since extreme amount of adhesive has been used inside the tablet. Even the lightning connector is soldered to the logic board, making the device immensely hard to open and repair. iPad Mini 4 has got a reparability rate of 2 out of 10 according to experts.… Read the rest
