HTC 8X users are in for a treat as they can look forward to update their device’s hardware
to Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1. Sadly, for HRC 8S users, the update stays unavailable as the device lacks update’s hardware requirements. Low internal memory of the 8S could also be the reason for not receiving the update.
However, for 8X users, the wait is going to be a bit longer as HTC, first needs to evaluate the performance of the device running the update before rolling it out to users.

As for now, HTC has not mentioned any specific time period to take out the update. While users of 8X smartphones get ready to update their device, 8S users will just have to wait to see what all HTC might have to offer.
