How Does New Apple Silicon M1 Chip Compare Against Intel i9?

Apple has unveiled first MacBook versions including Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and Macbook Air, featuring Apple Silicon M1 chips at a recent event earlier this week. Its first Geekbench benchmarks are already out there.  Apple M1 chip has shown promising results so far with ‌an 8GB MacBook Air‌ featuring silicon M1 chipset outperforming acclaimed 16-inch MacBook Pro.

MacBook Air model in question with an 8GB RAM ‌scored an impressive 1687 in single-core and 7433 in multi-core tests. It also offered a base frequency of up to 3.2GHz and has apparently also outperformed all iOS devices including the highest ranked A14 iPad Air. Notably, this iPad Air tops the benchmark charts among iOS devices with single-core and multi-core scores of 1585 and 4647 respectively.

But, a more important question lingering on the minds of all tech enthusiasts is how the new Apple Mi Chip compares against the powerful Intel i9. In this article, we bring to you a comprehensive specs comparison between the two, Apple M1 vs Intel i9-9900K.

Apple Silicon M1 Chip VS Intel Core i9-9900K

As per the specs chart of CPU Monkey, Apple M1 offers only 1.80 GHz base frequency while Intel i9-9900K offers a base frequency of 3.60 GHz. Moreover, Apple silicon M1 chip offers a Turbo 1 Core and all core frequencies of 3.10 GHz each. On the other hand, Intel’s i9 chipset provides 5.00 GHz and 4.70 GHz frequency for Turbo 1 core and Turbo all cores respectively.

Talking of their cores, both Apple and Intel chipsets in question are 8 core processors. But only i9 chips come with “Hyperthreading” and “Overclocking” features. But, Apple M1 gets things even with its GPU frequency. While Apple M1 chip features GPU Generation 1 with 5nm technology; Intel core i9 features GPU Generation 9.5 with 14 nm technology. Moreover, both provide up to 3 maximum displays and pack two memory channels. Additionally, Apple M1 has 128 execution units and i9 has 24 execution units.

In terms of memory, Intel offers up to 64GB of maximum GPU memory whereas Apple Silicon M1 chip gives you up to 8 GB of GPU memory.
