The Nexus line up of Google is still very much alive, according to confirmation by a company’s official. This suggests that there will be at least one new Nexus device which could to make its debut in 2014.
Earlier there were claims that the company is working on a new Android Silver project and is likely to get rid of its Nexus line up as a consequence. But Google’s Head of Engineering and the Nexus program, Dave Burke, has officially denied such reports and confirms the presence of the Nexus hardware line.
The official explained that one team of Google’s engineers is working on the open source code for new Android version, while another team is simultaneously designing a new Nexus device.
Burke has been quoted saying in a interview that “When we are working, there are sort of two outputs. We’re building a Nexus device and we’re building the open source code. There is no way you can build the open source code without the phone or tablet or whatever you are building. You have to live and breathe the code you are developing. You can’t build a platform in the abstract, you have to build a device (or devices). So, I don’t think it can or will ever go away. And then, I think Nexus is also interesting in that it is a way of us explaining how we think Android should run. It is a statement, almost a statement of purity in some respects. I don’t see why we would ever turn away from that, it wouldn’t make sense.”
