Get New OxygenOS Open Beta updates on OnePlus6, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T

Recently, OnePlus has announced new Open Beta updates on its 6T, 5 and 5T models of its smartphone. While OnePlus 6T received its first Open Beta in late December, its older smartphones received their updates much before.

Meanwhile, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will be upgraded to OxygenOS Open Beta 26 and Open Beta 24 versions respectively. Interestingly, OnePlus hasn’t included world clock support with weather information on its 6 and 6T smartphones to their  2017 models’ Open Beta updates.

  With the Open Beta program, users can try out new and experimental features and software versions before the stable update rollout.

According to the OnePlus official forums, OxygenOS Open Beta 12 for OnePlus 6 and Open Beta 4 for OnePlus 6T includes new features and enhancements.

Here are some of the changes;

System

  • Included an advanced laboratory for OnePlus 6
  • Optimized for screenshot function
  • Support for quick reply in landscape mode that makes it easier to reply messages while watching videos
  • Enhanced Gaming mode
  • OnePlus 6 and 6T support the world clock with weather information

Notably, OnePlus’ official community forum mentioned that it had paused the OTA update on its OnePlus5 and 5T owing to a critical bug. However, it also mentioned that Open Beta update will resume soon after resolving the issue.

While OnePlus has enhanced the gaming and quick reply for OnePlus 6T, it failed to share any details about fixing the rapid battery drain issue of the phone. Several users took to Reddit to report the battery drainage issues which are believed to have been cut in half.

The company has integrated the feedback tool into its community app. It can be used to submit bug reports, submit logs, etc in the beta builds.

Beta testers who have already  been using beta build on their OnePlus 6 or OnePlus 6T phones will receive the latest  Open Beta as an Over –The-Air update (OTA) update.

However, users running stable builds will need to flash the beta ROM by following the instructions available on the company (OnePlus ) website. Also, it is important to note that users switching to beta channel will not be able to release stable builds of OxygenOS.

In case a user wants to switch to beta channel, he will have to clean the flash (data and cache) from the phone’s software.
