The co-founders of Flipkart, Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal are the latest names on the Forbes India Rich rooster that was released on Wednesday. These new billionaires, who made a splash in the e-commerce industry, have an individual net worth of about $1.3 billion each. Forbes India lauded the fact that the e-commerce segment has added a new couple billionaire who currently stand at position 86 on the list.
Revealing the top ranks
The top spot has not seen any shift with Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries Limited retaining the position with a net worth of $18.9 billion. Ambani has been topping the Forbes India list for the last eight years but this year saw his net worth drop by about $4.7 billion owing to plummeting oil prices that adversely affected the company.
The second rank is occupied by Dilip Sanghvi of Sun Pharmaceuticals, who has a net worth of $18 billion. Third in line is Azim Premji, who is the chairman of IT major Wipro. He has a net worth of $15.9 billion. His figures fell by $500 million compared to last year, given that he pledging 18 per cent of his stake to a trust.
The Women’s Club
Noticeably, only a couple of women have made it to the top 100 list for billionaires in India. First up is USV Limited chairman Leena Tiwari with a net worth of $1.9 billion and Bennett, Coleman And Co Limited’s chairperson Indu Jain with a net worth of $1.85 billion.
Forbes India editor Sourav Majumdar says, “This year’s list reflects the churn in the global economy and the growing clout of emerging sectors like e-commerce in India.”
