Facebook Unveils Social Jobs to Help Unemployed Find Opportunities

After spending one year developing it, Facebook finally unveiled its latest app offering, Social Jobs. The app was created in collaboration with the Department of Labor and other government agencies where unemployed and underemployed Americans could hunt for job opportunities.
Social Jobs consolidates job listings from various online job portals like Jobvite and Monster, and even lets recruiters post job opportunities directly onto Facebook. As of now, the app claims to have over 1.7 million jobs listed, and counting. This app aims to pave the way to leverage social media as an effective tool in the hiring cycle.
Users can search for jobs by entering their location and profession using a simple interface and the search results are displayed in the form of tabs that take users to different job sites where they can learn more. It’s a bit difficult than just displaying a single page of results that would have made it a lot simpler to use.
On the first day of testing, however, the app did also manage to return some inappropriate results during searches. The app’s screen tends to freeze sometimes and the results may not always be relevant and could contain job listings from varied locations as well. For a collaborative effort with the government, this app could have been designed to be far more comprehensive than the initial offering for now. But for now, we recommend that you stick to your regular job portals.
