Editor’s Note

editor's noteIt is that time of the year. New events, fresh launches and a lot of leaks keep us busy. Interestingly, this time the Indian government is also keeping us busy. Last week, they launched BOSS, which is a home-grown operating system that could soon be available for use by the general public. Currently, it is being used internally by the government. The government wanted to set up its own OS to ensure enhanced security of government networks. This news came as a breath of fresh air and got us pretty excited about the future of tech in India.

But like all good things in life, the bubble didn’t last too long. Soon enough, the government seemed to be on its way to set up a national encryption policy that all internet users would dread. It required users to maintain and share all the information they have shared over the internet with the authorities if asked to. Immense furor followed and the government had to retract the draft policy within the next 24 hours.

We’d love to see what the government will throw next.
